Apostles and transfers!

2019 9 2 () 오전

So we got transfer calls this week! First off last Monday we had a call with President Jeong and he said one of us would leave to be a zone leader in another area, and the other would stay and train in Cheomdan. But neither of us wanted to go, so this whole week we were just thinking about it and who's going, both preparing emotionally for whatever happens 😂 and we got the call! Drumroll 🥁🥁🥁 I'll be staying! So I get to train in the area I'm in right now! So that'll be fun! And they are also keeping me as a zone leader. So it'll be an exciting transfer cause I get to train and do zone leader stuff and serve in the ward that I'm really liking! So missionary work is just awesome! I don't know who I'm training yet, but I get to meet him this Wednesday!

The sad thing is that now I'm not serving with Elder Meeks. My companionship curse struck again and I only served with him for 3 weeks, but it was really fun to serve with him, he's a great Elder.

Another exciting thing that happened was 보산탕! And for those who don't know Korean, I think that most closely translates to DOG SOUP! 🐕🍜 It took a year but finally had the opportunity thanks to the bishop here! Sorry all you dog lovers, but don't worry these dogs are literally just bread for that purpose. And I'm sure many of you are wondering, yes it was very good. In fact it tasted pretty similar to roast beef 😊. Also just another fun fact: dog is actually the 2nd best meat for your body. And now you’re curious about the first too, so I'll let you know that it is snake. 🐍

Other exciting news is that we were finally able to meet with one of our people that was being taught here for the first time this week! It was good and our other people are doing pretty good too! We're really trying to focus on the member's in our area, so just send prayers for us this week! It'll be pretty exciting getting to train, but lots of responsibility!

Much love,
Elder Hanks

So yeah it was a pretty awesome week!!! There was just so much fun and spiritual experiences this past week. So i'll just get into it!

The Apostle: This past week we had the special opportunity of having Elder Soares come to our mission and speak to all the missionaries. IT was so awesome!! He just is so inspired and he shared so many things that each and everyone needed to hear. Shared so many things that were just so memorable. The Apostles are truly special witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ. He got up to speak and one of the first things he said was "I know He lives" and the spirit that came into the room was amazing. This gospel is just as true as Mexican food is delicious. :)

Fun Experience: So we went on exchanges and didn't have anything to do. So we contacted a random guy and he had interest in religion and asked if we could come to him and talk! So we made our way out to this far little garage shop thing and met in like a little office. At first he was asking about our beliefs and stuff. so we did and it was great, we totally felt the spirit and thought he did too. But then he asked if he could share a bit too... (first doubt) And he started to lay out some random scriptures and stuff. he was pulling a lot of stuff out of revelations and other random stuff. So we found out that this guy was from the 신천지 church! (which is that really crazy church in Korea that everyone calls a cult, like the really crazy church, haha) so Then it was pretty fun. He was pretty hard hearted to our message, and he just wanted to try and convert us to his church (side note: I don't know it exactly, but I heard in their church the members get like certain recognition for converting certain people to their church, and if they convert a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they get like the most recognition, haha) But it was funny cause we just listened to him say stuff and we just nodded along. But funny enough, a lot of the stuff he was saying from the book of Revelations just proved our church true! There was a lot of stuff, so I won't get into it, but simply it was pretty fun :)

Funny experience: So we had some time yesterday on Sunday, so we were going to contact a less-active brother to ask if he could go visit him at 5 and share a message with him. But a few seconds after sending, our phone blows up with tons of texts messages. And so turns out that the message was accidentally sent into a group chat with like over 60 members, haha, so we get all these responses like "sorry we don't have time" or like "sure come on over!"... So we ended up accidentally getting over 10 appointments with members all at 5 O'Clock.... haha, but we resolved it, worked some magic and got 2 meal appointments with members and it worked out. It was a good memory

Miracle minute: So after the meeting with the Apostle, we needed to bounce back to our area. So we were walking down a road to get to a subway, but we looked at our phone and it told us to take a different road to the subway (which actually took longer, but we went anyway) and as we were walking into the other subway entrance the phone took us to, we met an old guy coming out who asked who we were, we introduced, he was interested and we asked if we could talk to him a little more. So we went and sat on a bench and answered a bunch of this man's questions, taught the whole 1st discussion (which was also like one of the best lessons we've had) and committed him to go to church there and continue meeting with the missionaries. So we talked with him for about over an hour and a half! It was so great!

Sorry it was pretty long, but that's just what you get when you have an amazing week! Love you all! We have transfers next week and it should be interesting! We just talked with our President this morning and he told us one of us is probably going to be transferring. SO stay tuned for what happens!

Much Love,
Elder Hanks

So there was some good stuff that happened this week... but i'm having a hard time remember a lot of it, haha.

But one thing was that we had Zone Conference this past week. So we had been planning for it for the past few weeks and it turned out great! We were focusing on how we could feel the Holy Ghost better and it was super good! there was a great spirit there are we learned quite a lot from it.

A few days later we randomly got a call from a kid to go play soccer with him, so we were like "No duh, Let's go!!" So we were getting ready to go play soccer, but as we were getting ready we both just had a weird feeling about it, so we talked and just decided we shouldn't go. So we canceled it and didn't have any other plans so we just hit the streets. We ended up talking to this italian family for like 30 minutes (the wife met the missionaries a long time ago and almost got baptized) but it was a good conversation. We don't really know if anything will come up out of it, hopefully there are some missionaries out there in Italy who can go find them later!

I've been studying about Charity in the Book of Mormon recently, and I was really impressed by the 2000 stripling sons in Alma 56, and it really just impressed me that all those young men were willing to do that just for their families. Particularly verse 47 is really good, if you're curious you can go look it up :) but just really impressive how these young men were willing to die just for the freedom of their families. Charity is such a fun topic to study about. The Book of Mormon is amazing. If you haven't read it in a while, I’d suggest picking it up :)

Much love,
Elder Hanks

right next to our house is the FINA world swimming tournament, so it's pretty fun to meet a lot of foreigners from all over

we went out to lunch with a cool brother

I saw this on an elevator and was just confused where floor 23 came from, and why it was red

we've seen this a lot recently, people just put all these peppers out on their car so the sun can dry them, kind of interesting
